How to Upload Audio to Roblox
Updated
Background music and sound effects make a Roblox game feel alive. This guide shows what audio Roblox accepts, how to upload it, and how to play it in your experience.
Roblox Audio Requirements
- Formats: MP3, OGG, WAV or FLAC
- Up to 7 minutes long and 20 MB
- Sample rate up to 48 kHz; mono, stereo or surround
- Free uploads: 100 per 30 days, or 2,000 per 30 days if your account is ID-verified
Only upload audio you have the rights to use. Music and sound effects you make with the 8-Bit Music Generator and the Sound Effect Generator are yours to use in your games.
Upload Audio in Roblox Studio
- 1 Open the Asset Manager in Studio.
- 2 Click Import, choose your audio files and confirm.
- 3 Wait for moderation; the audio is ready to use once it is approved.
Upload Audio in the Creator Dashboard
- 1 Go to create.roblox.com and open Development Items → Audio.
- 2 Click Upload Asset and choose the file.
- 3 Enter a name and a description and submit. The audio is checked by moderation before you can use it.
Give Your Game Permission
Roblox’s asset privacy stops other people from using your audio without permission. After the audio passes moderation you can grant access to specific experiences and friends — do this if the game belongs to a group or to another creator.
How to Add Music to a Roblox Game
Copy the audio’s asset ID, then in Studio:
- 1 Insert a Sound into Workspace.
- 2 Set its SoundId to rbxassetid:// followed by your ID.
- 3 Tick Looped for background music and Playing so it starts when the game starts.
Or create and play the sound from a Script:
local sound = Instance.new("Sound")
sound.SoundId = "rbxassetid://0000000" -- your audio ID
sound.Looped = true
sound.Volume = 0.5
sound.Parent = workspace
sound:Play() Roblox also has a newer audio API built around AudioPlayer for mixing and effects; a Sound is the simplest way to start.
Make Music and Sound Effects for Your Game
Make a looping 8-bit track for free with the 8-Bit Music Generator, or describe a track and let AI compose it. Make jump, coin, laser and explosion sounds with the Sound Effect Generator. Both give you audio files you can upload as shown above.
