How to Make Clothes on Roblox

Updated

Classic Roblox clothing comes in three kinds — shirts, pants and T-shirts — and each one is a single image that Roblox wraps around the avatar. This guide covers the templates, three ways to make the image, how to test it before you pay, and how to upload and sell it.

Shirts, Pants and T-Shirts

  • Shirts cover the torso and both arms with a 585×559 template — see the Roblox Shirt Template.
  • Pants cover the legs and the waist with the same 585×559 layout — see the Roblox Pants Template.
  • T-shirts are one square image, such as 512×512, shown on the front of the torso over any shirt — see the Roblox T-Shirt Template.

Layered and 3D clothing are different: they are 3D models made in tools such as Blender. This guide is about classic clothing.

Step 1: Get the Template

Download a free template. The labeled guide shows which rectangle becomes which side of the body; the transparent version has outlines only. Right and left are the avatar’s own, so the right arm is on your left when the avatar faces you.

Step 2: Make the Design

Pick whichever way suits you:

  • Paint it yourself. Open the template in Photopea (free, in the browser), GIMP, Krita or Photoshop, paint each rectangle on a layer above it, hide the template layer and export a PNG.
  • Use the Roblox Shirt Maker. Pick colours, sleeve length and trim, add an AI pattern or a front graphic, and download a finished PNG — no image editor needed.
  • Add depth with shading. Lay the shading template over your design and set the layer to Multiply so the clothes look less flat.

Leave the background transparent: empty areas show the skin or the clothing underneath. JPG has no transparency, so export PNG.

Step 3: Test It Before You Pay

Uploading costs Robux, so check the design first. Load the PNG into the 3D preview on any of the template pages and turn the avatar around. In Roblox Studio you can also insert a Shirt (or Pants) into a block avatar rig and set its ShirtTemplate (or PantsTemplate) to your uploaded image.

Step 4: Upload It to Roblox

  1. 1 Go to create.roblox.com and open Avatar Items → Classics in the Creator Dashboard.
  2. 2 Click Upload Asset and choose your PNG.
  3. 3 Set Asset Type to Shirt, Pants or T-Shirt, and enter a name and a description.
  4. 4 Click Upload and pay the 80 Robux upload fee. The item is checked by moderation before it goes live.

Step 5: Put It on Sale

Open the item from the Classics tab, switch On Sale on and set a price. Putting it on sale takes a 10 Robux publishing advance, which you get back as it sells. Uploading and selling need ID verification or a linked parent account, and Roblox’s July 2026 update requires an active Plus or Premium subscription to keep items on sale.

In the Marketplace, the creator’s share starts at 30% at the price floor and rises with the price, up to 70% at six times the floor; inside an experience it is 30%. See what you keep at any price with the Roblox Tax Calculator.

Can You Make Roblox Clothes for Free?

Designing and testing are free — the templates, the free image editors above and the 3D previews cost nothing. Getting clothing onto Roblox is not: each upload costs 80 Robux, and putting an item on sale takes the 10 Robux publishing advance.
